The Environment at CoRE
- Environmental Education Centre in Halstock, Dorset, England.
- Bespoke therapeutic indoor spaces, including a bespoke wooden cabin, workshop and yurts.
- 20 acres of diverse natural landscape eg. woodland, river, ponds, wild flower meadow.
- Enables students to work therapeutically with a wide range of animals.
Background
From a thriving Forest School, CoRE evolved into helping young people with additional needs re-engage through ecotherapy.
CoRE became a CIC, was awarded funding from the LEADER Fund to build an Environmental Education Centre and to develop rural employment for the thriving alternative education provision.
CoRE joined the Dorset Council Framework to ensure young people of Dorset could have access to the Mentoring Programme.
Our location has meant the services CoRE provides can be accessed by young people from more regions of the South West in a beautiful, rural setting with no classrooms.
In 2019, work began on building;
- The Oak Cabin as a beautiful space for learning and creating
- The large barn for wood working, art and play
- An improved car park
- Updated animal housing and paddocks
- Improved wildflower meadow
